A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME...

I've lived in the Branson area for nearly 15 years now, with my amazing husband John Tweed and our incredible children, Sarah and Jacob.  John's had a show here in town for 9 seasons and loves what he does.  Being married to "The Voice" is quite a thrill!!  We had the pleasure of watching our children thrive in the Branson school system.  Being involved with their activities was such fun.  They both excelled in the band program, so all of you "Band Parents" know what Octobers were like for five years.  We cherished every moment.  As "Empty Nesters" now, things are a little different.  For all you compatriots on that front, we feel your pain.

I grew up in an Air Force family.  Yes, I was a "Military" brat in the fullest sense of the word!  My father retired a Colonel after serving his country for 28 years, and is a decorated VietNam war veteran.  That makes me very proud and has helped guide me as a citizen of this great nation of ours.  I became hooked on history after living on Hanscom AFB in Bedford Massachussetts as a preteen.  I walked my dog on Battle Road right past where Paul Revere was captured!  My studies brought me to truly appreciate Thomas Jefferson and his writings.  His writings about personal freedom, religious freedom, commerce and banking drew me right in.
Fast forward many years.  It's the 1980s, I'm a young college student attending California State University Long Beach as a Human Development major.  Ronald Reagan is president.  I'm pretty impressed and proud to be an American.  Fast forward a few more years.  We survived the Clinton administration.  A few more years pass and we have George W. Bush in the White House, and everything that entails.  We are attacked on 9/11/2001.  We are now at war in two different countries.  Our economy is in free-fall.  Our military men and women are on foodstamps .  They are also suffering in some areas if they come home wounded and in need of medical care.  This I learn from working with military organizations here in Branson and hearing it firsthand from the enlisted men and women to the Brass.  Any wounded veteran NOT receiving 110% of the finest medical care imaginable is an issue for me.  I'm not a happy Republican.

We enter into an election cycle that will change my world completely as well as begin a movement all across this nation.  It's the Presidential Election of 2008.  I learn, for the first time, of a Congressman named Ron Paul.  Here is the man who also knows much about one of our greatest Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson.  It's apparent in his speeches and in his ideas  to how to run a country.  I research him and the campaign and become a "County Coordinator" for his campaign.  Even though he is running as a Republican, I simply cannot remain one myself.  I find the Libertarian party, read their platform and realize I've found a place to hang my political hat!

I believe every single American is entitled to "Life, Liberty and the Persuit of Happiness".  I believe that the First Amendment is the most important one in our Constitution.  Freedom of speech must be protected, including the speech that offends.  When the debate dies, our freedoms die with it.

An event that helped me grow as a person, happened in 1998.  I was involved in a propane explosion that burned 86% of my body.  I spent two months in an induced coma and the next two months learning the most elemental tasks:  breathing, walking, and caring for myself.  My family grew as a result.  My appreciation for every day became enhanced.  I began to see myself connected to people in a way I couldn't have imagined before the incident.  I can honestly tell you that nothing bad happened that day in 1998.  I had the support of family and friends and an amazing burn team at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.  For that I am grateful.  The results are that I am completely healed and living an amazing life filled with joy and opportunity at every turn.
When asked, I lend my support to local families effected by burns here in Southwest Missouri.  I am also involved with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, a national burn support network.

What I ultimately bring to the table is gratitude for a life well lived and the knowledge that "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger"!  Politically, I have been a "Right Wing Republican" who became a Libertarian because the most basic freedoms we all cherish were being taken for granted and overlooked, dare I say, taken away from each of us.  That is intolerable.  I will work tirelessly in Jefferson City to ensure that all Missourians can live their lives free from Big Government infringement, whatever form it may take.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a bit better.  If you have any questions at all, please email them to me and I will respond as quickly as possible.
